Spring has sprung and so have wildflowers, bees and butterflies! This May we are encouraging everyone to get involved in No Mow May by letting lawns and grassy areas grow wild for nature.
What is No Mow May?
No Mow May is an annual event run by the charity Plantlife, it is a UK-wide campaign to support wildlife by simply doing less. By not mowing in the month of May, we can help vital pollinators like bees and butterflies thrive at a time when they need it most.
Why does it matter?
Mowing less allows wildflowers like clover, daisies, and dandelions to bloom this offers food and shelter to insects and other wildlife.
This is important as, since the 1930s, we have lost nearly 7.5 million acres of flower rich meadow and pasture. Just 1% of our countryside now provides this floral fast for pollinators. With 15 million gardens in Britain, our lawns have the potential to become major sources of nectar.
How you can get involved
Skip the mow this month and let your lawn grow freely. Even a small patch left untouched can be shelter for biodiversity.
