Training Contracts

Our reputation as one of the region’s leading law firms depends on recruiting and retaining the industry’s brightest talent.

Your training with us will be led by our Partners, who are regularly featured within Legal 500 and Chambers. We take a practical, positive approach to new talent, giving you the chance to take on responsibility quickly.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for people with intellectual ability, a pragmatic commercial attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, and the drive to exceed our clients’ expectations. In return, we offer competitive salaries, great benefits, and consideration will be given to paying LPC course fees.

Will I have a say in which seats I do?

After investing tens of thousands of pounds and getting through the necessary courses, you will have an approximate idea of what sort of law you might want to do when you qualify, and we try and tailor your training to meet that ambition.

The interview process

  • Looking for a head start in your legal career? Attend one of our At Home with Roythornes days at our offices to experience life and work with us. Taking place in 2024, At Home with Roythornes will allow you to visit our offices and speak to our expert team – asking all the questions you need before applying for a training contract with us.

  • We are now accepting applications for 2024/25, if you would like to apply for a training contract with us, please apply to our Trainee Solicitor vacancy and fill in the application form in full, providing as much detail as possible alongside a CV and cover letter.

  • If you are successful, you will be invited to attend an initial interview on Microsoft Teams, where you will have the opportunity to discuss your CV and find out more about a training contract with Roythornes.

  • Successful candidates will then be invited to return for our second round of interviews, where you will be invited to one of our offices to take part in two interviews with our Partners.

  • Those that are successful in the first round of interviews will also be sent a psychometric test, to assist us in understanding your behavioural and communicational preferences. We will give you feedback on your assessment during the second round of interviews. There are no right or wrong answers to this, so no need to overthink it!

  • Please prepare for our interviews as much as you can. We receive a large number of applications, so you’ll need to demonstrate what makes you stand out from the crowd!
