Our actions so far

We have undertaken a number of projects to support communities, enhance the environment, support wellbeing, and engage staff with environmental initiatives including: 

  • Holding a Sustainability Round Table with our key suppliers to share ideas and inspiration on sustainable projects.
  • Developing a programme of outreach to our major suppliers to help them on their substantiality journey;
  • Selecting an office space for our Langham office that used environmentally sound materials and suppliers;
  • Working with fellow tenants and landlords of buildings to influence their sustainability programmes;
  • Focussing on our key carbon contributors such as commuting with action plans and more detailed analysis;
  • Commissioning Auditel to help us further understand our Carbon Footprint and to externally audit our activities;
  • Becoming members of Investors in the Environment and signing the Greener Litigation Pledge;
  • Encouraging and supporting staff to reduce their energy and water use whilst working from home;
  • Opening our new Birmingham office in 2022 with a focus on environmental performance. All lights are LEDs with well-zoned PIR sensors, bins are well-located with consistent signage, and the office is easily accessible by sustainable transport;
  • Identifying and managing environmental risks and opportunities; 
  • Planting 300 trees in our local community;
  • Recycling 95% of our waste at our Spalding office;
  • Reducing our carbon footprint;
  • Eliminating single-use plastic wherever possible;
  • Setting up recycling schemes for local, national, and international charities; 
  • Encouraging staff to calculate their own carbon footprint;
  • Presenting lunchtime seminars on financial, physical social and emotional well-being - all backed up be resources on our intranet; 
  • Introducing a salary sacrifice scheme to make the purchase of electric and hybrid vehicles easier for our staff;
  • Installing electric vehicle charging points at our Spalding office;
  • Installing solar panels on the roof of our Spalding office;
  • Training a number of Mental Health First Aiders;
  • Launching our Well-being team to drive well-being initiatives throughout the company;
  • Updating our Travel Policy to reduce our impact on the environment;
  • Introducing the Yu Life app to encourage staff well-being and fitness;
  • Giving all of our staff one day a year to help with a community project or charity;
  • Investing in efficient heat, light and power plants for our offices;
  • Reducing the pages we print by over 50% between 2018 and 2025 despite increasing our headcount by over 48% in that time;
  • Achieving Investors In People Gold status in 2023
