Since qualifying into Roythornes' Employment team in 2017, Laura has acted for both employers and employees and, in so doing, has developed a good understanding of the many facets of her specialist area of the law.

Laura advises businesses and individuals on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law. She regularly advises on routine HR matters as well as on more involved issues, such as advising on negotiating senior employee’s exits from businesses, settlement agreements, drafting employment contracts and staff handbooks. She also has considerable experience when dealing with Employment Tribunal matters, in particular, those involving discrimination issues and unfair and constructive dismissals.

Laura also undertakes work advising on the employment aspects of commercial transactions such as those involving TUPE transfers.

She is renowned for providing commercial and pragmatic advice to her clients.

Laura's recent work has included:

  • successfully acting for an employee in a claim for pregnancy discrimination against a firm of solicitors.
  • advising an employer on engaging an overseas staff member.
  • advising on a large scale TUPE transfer, involving 150 employees.
  • acting for a multinational company in their defence (and counterclaim) of a constructive dismissal claim.
  • advising a local business on a large scale redundancy exercise, with no claims being brought as a result.
