As a senior associate in the Private Client team, Katie specialises in advising on and preparing Wills, Trusts and Lasting Powers of Attorney, as well as estate administrations for large and complex estates, and lifetime tax planning.
She also advises landowning and farming clients in respect of succession planning, working closely with family accountants, land agents and financial advisers.
Katie is ranked in the Legal 500 2026 as a ‘Leading Associate’ in both Personal tax, trusts and Probate, as well as Agriculture and Estates entries, with clients commenting that she …’explains things clearly and is friendly and approachable, she responds to emails and other requests promptly and efficiently’. She has also been named in the UK 2025 Chambers High Net Worth Submissions as an ‘Associate to watch’. Her clients commented that Katie is ‘empathetic, kind and understanding, while being so very professional and knowledgeable at the same time…’, and that ‘Katie demonstrates excellent expertise and a willingness to fully explain the process, she always response promptly to emails and requests for support or information’.
Katie is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), obtaining TEP status in 2017.
Recent work includes:
- Advising lottery winners in respect of Wills, LPA’s and tax planning
- Dealing with complex estates of three related family members, including Quick Succession Relief with HMRC
- Providing guidance to Trust Corporations on their professional trustee responsibilities
- Dealing with urgent grant ad colligenda bona application to enable options agreements to complete on time
- Estate planning advice involving the use of a charity vehicle to receive property of historical significance
- Advising on gift and leaseback of chattels
- Inheritance tax and succession planning advice for multi-generational farming family, including Agricultural Property Relief and Business Property Relief
- Successful negotiations with HMRC on the application of Agricultural Property Relief on a farmhouse, resulting in a significant inheritance tax saving
Katie is also a trustee of a local charity in Colchester, The Dacon Trust, which provides work and life skills training for adults and young people with learning disabilities through personalised and community-based activities, and has been involved with the charity since 2014.
