Catherine Rickett, Debt Recovery Manager

Believe it or not, I did not spent my school days dreaming of law. I had high hopes of becoming a journalist, but life has a way of throwing things at you.

I was made redundant from a job in the media when I was 25, just 2 weeks before my husband and I married. I panicked and applied for every job I could find, and ended up working at a local law firm in Peterborough.

After the birth of my daughter in 2009, I had to return to work for financial reasons, and there was no option to return part time. I decided to start studying the law to make it worth my while, and found that I really enjoyed it.

I studied for 6 years alongside working full time and qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive Lawyer in 2015, and joined Roythornes in 2018 as the Debt Recovery Manager. In my role I am always busy, with a variety of projects, including encouraging new business to the firm, looking after our key clients, managing a team as well as looking after the more complicated debts matters.

I was attracted to Roythornes because of the strong female presence at the head of the firm. This was something I had not seen much of, and it was a breath of fresh air in such a male dominated sector.

I have strong role models to work alongside and I am proud to work at such a progressive firm.
