Roythornes appoints four heavyweights to boost office

TOP 150 LAW FIRM Roythornes Solicitors has welcomed four new partners to its Birmingham office, adding to its ambitious growth plans in the region.

Gavin Faber, Hayley McCormack and Joanna Grewer will together provide a leading private wealth offering to the Birmingham and wider market. The newly formed team will provide a full private client and family offering, alongside will, trust and estate disputes. In addition, Parmjit Gill, has joined to complement the commercial property and real estate teams.

All four appointments bring a wealth of experience to the Roythornes team, helping to raise the firm’s profile in the UK’s second city.

Vember Mortlock, managing partner at Roythornes, said: "We feel incredibly fortunate to have Gavin, Hayley, Joanna and Parmjit join us as partners, bringing their impressive expertise to the firm. We have maintained ambitious growth plans for Birmingham since our latest move, and their appointment will only help us to reach these goals and strengthen our West Midlands office and team. Private wealth has always been a core strength of our business and it is exciting to now have such a strong offering in the Midlands.”

Joanna Grewer has been advising private clients for over 15 years, with a particular focus on complex Court of Protection work.  She is a member of Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE) as well as being a branch committee member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). She said: “Roythornes is a tier one firm and has a fantastic reputation, so I’m thrilled to join the team.”

“Growing the private client team for Roythornes in the West Midlands is an exciting challenge. The need for individuals to take advice in terms of succession planning, wills, trusts, tax and powers of attorney should never be underestimated. With the seemingly constant changes to tax rules and the nuances of family relationships, being able to work within a full-service firm ensures that clients can be fully advised and represented in all aspects of their lives.”

Gavin Faber is a leading individual in the legal directories and most recently led the national Private Wealth Disputes team at Gateley. He is a member of the Association of Contentious Trust & Probate Specialists and co-founder of the Central Group, as well as a branch committee member of STEP, a member of SFE and sits on the Birmingham Law Society Private Client Committee. He is an expert in wills, trusts and estate disputes and at Roythornes will be focusing on contentious probate, trust disputes, contentious Court of Protection work and any disputes in relation to a person’s estate.

Gavin said: “From the moment I spoke with Roythornes I was impressed by the investment it has made in its Birmingham office and the private wealth sector as a whole. We are looking at ambitious growth plans for the teams, as well as the wider office, and am delighted to join such an entrepreneurial firm, which is already home to very talented individuals.”

Hayley McCormack, a family law expert with nearly 20 years professional experience, specialises in a broad range of family issues including divorce, financial negotiations and litigation, cohabitation issues as well as disputes relating to children. She has particular expertise in dealing with complex financial work and wealth protection.

She said: “The opportunity at Roythornes is extremely exciting and I had no hesitation in joining, to be part of and grow the offering in Birmingham. As a family law specialist, my focus is always the best interests of my clients and their families and helping them through often extremely difficult times in the most constructive way. I am so pleased to join a firm which places such focus on client relationships and working collaboratively. I look forward to supporting our full-service ambitions and building great relationships with new and existing clients.”

Parmjit Gill has worked across both law firms and in house for property development and investment companies.

Parmjit said: “My career path so far has been unique and moving between practice and industry has been an enriching professional experience.

“At Roythornes, I’m able to use my knowledge on both sides of the property industry to create new opportunities and help develop business in the city using a commercial mindset. This is an exciting challenge and a great opportunity for Roythornes to be recognised for its modern approach to law, business diversity and overall inclusivity.”

The firm has seen substantial growth since opening its new premises in 2022. Now with more than 30 staff in the city, the office is going from strength to strength as Roythornes’ one team ethos and collaborative culture is recognised.
