Roythornes Advises on Acquisition of Opals UK to OCU Group

Top 150 national law firm Roythornes Solicitors has advised Peterborough telecommunications provider Opals UK in a major acquisition deal with OCU Group, a multi-utility services specialist.

The acquisition will see full-fibre network provider Instalcom, a division of OCU Group, accelerate the deployment of fibre in the East Midlands and East of England.

Roythornes acted on behalf of the Company’s founder, Sam Hodge, in negotiating the sale documentation and achieving a positive result for all parties.

The team at Roythornes was led by Mike Matthews, partner and head of mergers and acquisitions, who said: “Working with Opals is an example of the great work our corporate team is doing, and we’re delighted to have helped Sam achieve the deal he wanted. We adopt a one-team ethos, tapping into the expertise across the firm to offer the best advice to our clients and this deal was supported by colleagues from our corporate, employment, commercial and commercial property teams.”

The deal will provide the OCU Group with specialist fibre experience, enhancing its position as a leader in full fibre network delivery.

Sam Hodge, managing director and founder of Opals, said: “This acquisition is a big step for Opals, as well as myself and the wider management team. Mike and the team at Roythornes were great to work with throughout the whole process, adopting a responsive and practical approach and I would have no hesitation in recommending them.”
