Bursary scheme launched

Roythornes has launched a Bursary scheme to help local students gain a career in the law.

The scheme, which is open to students who study within a 35 mile radius of Spalding, will offer two students a bursary worth up to £4,500 a year to help with the costs of studying law, together with work experience and the possibility of a training contract.  It is one of the most comprehensive packages in the region and one which the firm will hope boost recruitment of the best local talent.

Speaking about the scheme, Managing Director Vember Mortlock said:

“We’re delighted to be offering the bursary – it will be a real head-start for the successful candidates and help us to recruit our leaders of tomorrow.  We know the cost of studying at university can be high and sometimes off-putting, so by offering to pay up to £4,500 a year we hope to ease the burden and identify those who will help with the continual growth of the firm.”

The firm decided to open the scheme to regional applicants in order to support the community.  Vember, who started her career at a large London firm, continued:

“Many of our staff and current trainees grew up in the region and we have no doubt it helps our business if our people know the community in which they work. The quality of training, high level specialist legal work and career prospects at Roythornes rival those at many bigger city firms, with the added benefit of a better work life balance. We would like to give the best candidates the opportunity to realise this at the outset of their careers.”

Applications for the 2016 scheme are open until 27th November, after which there will be a rigorous selection procedure involving interviews and exercises.
