"One thing that stood out for me in the application process was how interested the firm was in me as a person."
Having finished my LLB at the University of Exeter in 2017, I was unsure whether to settle in the South West or the East Midlands. One factor that really helped sway my decision was work experience with Roythornes at the end of my second year. Having been with the firm beforehand and having spent some time as a paralegal at another firm, I found it an easy decision to apply to Roythornes.
One thing that stood out for me in the application process was how interested the firm was in me as a person. They don’t look to catch you out but rather want to get to know you. Once I completed my LPC in summer 2019, I was happy to be given a choice for how soon I started. The firm is very keen to have future trainees work as a paralegal for a time before they start their training contract, to let them settle in and get to know the firm better before starting for good.
My first seat was in commercial property and I was happy to be given some really varied and interesting work right from day one. My supervisors were really helpful and took the time to teach me. By the end of my seat I had a comfortable level of responsibility on files and was able to talk to clients on my own, which I think is testament to the extent of support given. The client base that the firm acts for is very varied, and it is nice to have that mix of work from some very big-name companies alongside local businesses and families. Having now moved to my second seat in Private Client, I’m happy to report that that the work is still just as interesting and my supervisors just as supportive.
