I first became aware of Roythornes almost eight years ago when a partner attended my secondary school during Year 9 to give a careers talk on the legal sector, and explained the different areas that Roythornes specialises in.

Having already completed work experience in other local firms, specialising in either commercial law or more private matters, I knew I wanted a firm which offered a mix of both, but also one which had a strong reputation. I was reminded of Roythornes when I saw an advertisement in the local newspaper for the “At Home with Roythornes” event and I secured a first interview for a training contract by winning the “R Factor” video competition. The atmosphere at the event was much friendlier than the open days I had attended at other firms further afield and cemented in my mind that Roythornes was where I wanted to train.

Right from that first interview, it was made clear that Roythornes is committed to retaining its staff and to providing opportunities to progress within the firm.  The fact that many of the partners have been with the firm for thirty-plus years was a great testament to the firm’s assertion that it values each one of its employees.

My first seat with the Planning team allowed me to work on a variety of complex matters and exposed the firm’s focus on creating longstanding client relationships. I was given plenty of feedback on my work to help me develop my skills and knowledge of Planning. I am now working within the Court of Protection and Family teams and from day one, I have been able to attend client meetings, draft LPAs, divorce petitions and prepare court bundles.  I have been supported throughout by a whole range of fee earners, who have vast amounts of knowledge of their respective areas.
