Our place in the environment

Our aim is to be one of the UK’s greenest law firms. We are determined to make sure that any impact on our environment is kept to a minimum.

We became members of Investors in the Environment in 2013 – an organisation that supports businesses to become more eco-friendly.  We are audited each year and have achieved the highest level accreditation year on year. We were also awarded a Green Star for three consecutive years for Outstanding Achievement. In 2019, our Operations Director also achieved a Green Champion Award.

Going forwards we will be focussing our attention on continuing to cut our utility usage, reviewing our travel plans and how they link into reducing our carbon footprint, tree planting opportunities, reviewing our landfill VS recycling, developing our paperlite agenda in conjunction with our clients and working towards net zero.

Some of our initiatives to date have included:

  • Introduction of our Green Team – a group of like-minded individuals who would like to help the business and the staff reduce the environmental impact both at work and at home
  • Installing LED lighting at our Spalding office to reduce our carbon footprint, reduce our energy spend and provide more ambient lighting for our staff
  • Undertaking multiple recycling initiatives for local, national and international charities
  • Pushing forward on the paperlite agenda – reviewing what we print, encouraging the use of electronic communication wherever possible, developing systems that allow easy access to an internet portal for our clients and using electronic signatures wherever possible
  • Reducing our overall carbon footprint by 42% over a five year period
  • Replacing single-use plastic wherever we can such as using glass milk bottles, bamboo pens, supplying all staff with reusable coffee cups and water bottles
  • Running Green Weeks and Zero Waste Weeks firmwide
  • Continually communicating with our staff and clients about our initiatives, giving hints and tips and holding Green Team sessions
  • Selecting suppliers whose values align with ours
