My long-established interest in business was reinforced by the enjoyment of commercial modules during my law degree. However, in order for me to decide which firm was ‘right’ for me to train at, I was keen to gain experience in firms of different sizes and with strengths in different disciplines. I was fortunate enough to obtain work experience in large city firms as well as other smaller regional firms which proved invaluable in my decision making. It meant I was clear I wanted to be at a commercially minded firm and so I naturally targeted my training contract applications to firms with strong reputations in this area.
I was in the very fortunate position of having more than one training contract offer, but joining Roythornes ultimately proved an easy decision. What swung it for me was the personable approach of the Partners and solicitors I met at interview, not to mention the impressive head office building in Spalding with all the modern facilities you could ask for. Having spent some time in the office I would add that the working environment is relaxed and I have found that help is always on hand when I need it.
There are also many social and sporting events to get involved in – I have already played in two cricket matches against other firms in the area and regularly play badminton with my fellow trainees.
Ultimately, I am confident that with the help and support of the people around me, I will be the best solicitor I can be when I come to qualify in 2017. I look forward to seeing what my future at Roythornes holds.
