Solicitors Roythornes have taken a first step into the world of social media with by broadcasting legal briefings on Twitter.

The Peterborough firm have for some time issued employment law bulletins by e-mail and they now reach hundreds of businesses across the region and further afield.  The inclusion of Twitter is simply an extension of this, according to employment partner Phil Cookson.

"The e-mail service works very well, but we need to move with the times an there are people who use Twitter to keep up with what is happening just as much as their e-mail.  We are now providing Twitter users with the ability to access our bulletins, so they will be kept up to date with employment law changes as they happen."

Phil went on to say that depending on the response, other development may follow:

"There is a lot of discussion about social media and whether it is a suitable communications channel for lawyers to use, but we need to investigate new opportunities and ways of reaching clients, and this is a good way of doing so."
