| Short consultation on training 18/08/2010 Businesses in the region have been given just a month to comment on recently introduced legislation on training, as part of a Government review. The right for workers in businesses of over 250 employees to request time off for training was introduced in April of this year. Current plans are for the regulations to apply to small and medium sized businesses from April next year. Phil Cookson, Employment specialist at city Based Roythornes Solicitors said:
"The reason for the review, according to the Government is to ensure that before any changes are made to the regulations, an assessment is made of whether they are in fact improving training opportunities for employees. It is linked to the Coalition's aim of reducing the overall regulatory burden on business, which also included this week hints that they may be looking at shelving or even scrapping plans to extend Paternity Leave which are due to come in to force next April."
Phil went on to say that the regions employers did not have much time to comment on the regulations:
"Consultations such as this are usually 12 weeks but this one closes on 15th September, so anyone with views on how the regulations are working should make them within that time."
