Webcheck helps Charity 16/11/2009

Directors could face £100 per day fine for defective web sites……but help is on hand

Local solicitors, Roythorne Christmas have warned that many businesses and their directors face fines of up to £100 per day because their websites do not comply with regulations introduced nearly a year ago.

But in a link up with city based charity Kidney Research UK, they are offering firms an audit of their web sites in return for a donation to charity.

Roythornes researched the websites of 100 companies operated by their major clients and found that an incredible 76% failed to comply with the regulations in one way or another.

Speaking about the results of the research, Paul Tate, Partner at Roythornes LLP said: It seems to me that these regulations are well under the radar for many companies.  We find that once directors are aware of their personal risk of prosecution and the fines for non-compliance, something usually get done about it.

In an innovative move, Roythornes have teamed up with Kidney Research UK to offer firms a web check in response for a donation of at least £50 to Kidney Research UK.

Paul said: Companies should check their sites - the cost of ensuring your web site is compliant is minimal compared to the potential fines which could be imposed and we would urge any company to check their sites as a matter of urgency.

Anyone wishing to take advantage of the Roythornes/Kidney research UK web check service should contact Nick Arculus at Roythornes on 01733 898958, or visit the online donation page at http://www.kidneyresearchukevents.org/Roythornes
