The latest suggestions for tackling the dual problem of empty properties and housing shortages..... 27/03/2009

.... has been given a cautious welcome by property lawyers Roythorne Christmas.

The proposals come from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the Governments housing and regeneration delivery agency for England whose role is to create thriving communities and affordable homes. They are suggesting that the HCA could provide funding to local authorities to cover the cost of bringing empty properties back into the housing market, to ease the housing problems in their area.

The scheme is being trialled in Haringey where the Council has identified 50 redundant homes it wants to bring back into use.

Speaking about the proposals, Robbie ODriscoll, Property Director with Roythorne Christmas said:

"It is another good initiative from the Government. Utilising some of the the million empty homes in the UK is an obvious solution to the housing crisis in the region. Our only note of caution is that each local authoritys situation is differen
